Impact Stories

Ekane’s First Byte

The Challenge: In the rural district of Batoke, 16-year-old Ekane was studying “Information and Communication Technology” for his national examination. However, his school had no electricity and no computers. He spent his lessons drawing a mouse and keyboard in his notebook, memorizing functions he had never actually performed.
Through our Computer4Change initiative, Itallen Foundtion established a solar-powered ICT lab at Ekane’s school. We provided 10 refurbished laptops and trained his teachers on how to integrate digital literacy into the curriculum.
The Impact For the first time, Ekane moved from drawing a cursor to moving one. Within six months, his grades in ICT jumped from 45% to 88%. More importantly, Ekane discovered a passion for coding. “I used to think computers were magic for people in the city,” Ekane says. “Now I know they are tools I can use to build my own future.”

Breaking the Gender Tech Barier (Eposi’s Digital Storefront)

Eposi, a young mother in Mokindi, ran a small batik textile business. Despite her talent, her sales were limited to her local neighborhood. Like many women in her community, she felt “tech-shy” and believed the internet was only for entertainment, not for business.
Eposi joined our Girls in Tech & Entrepreneurship workshop. We provided a safe learning space where she learned how to use a smartphone for more than just calls. We taught her digital marketing, basic bookkeeping apps, and how to showcase her products on social media.
Today, Eposi doesn’t just sell to her neighbors; she receives orders from across Cameroon via WhatsApp and Instagram. Her monthly income has increased by 60%, allowing her to pay for her daughter’s school fees in full. “The digital world used to feel like a locked door,” Eposi explains. “ITAFOCAM” gave me the key.”
